What All Bmw Dealers Won’t Tell You

What All BMW Dealers Won’t Tell You

You probably have had an experience like this.

You get the itch for a new or pre-owned BMW. The first thing you do is look in your local newspaper for the model you want hoping to find a great deal. So you pack up the family and go from dealership to dealership searching for the perfect BMW with the financing that meets your needs.

When you finally decide on the car you want, then the real struggle begins.

Let’s say that you want to buy a pre-owned 2006 BMW X5. And this little baby has it all: Black Leather Interior, Self-Leveling Suspension, Navigation System, Cold Weather Package, Heated Steering Wheel, 8 Cylinder 4.8 Liter Engine and on and on. The minute you saw this Imola Red honey you fell instantly in love. Now the last thing you want is a hassle over the price and the financing.

As you know, car salesmen are notorious for being aggressive and abrasive.

My experience when buying any car has always been like this. During the test drive all the salesman does is talk talk talk. He or she keeps pointing out features of the car even before they ask me what is most important to me when I buy my next car. All you want to do at this point is just get a “good feel” for the car to see if you really like it and want to buy it. That’s all you want to do at this point—-right?

Even after the test drive is over, the agony continues for you.

]]>

Most likely you will spend between two and three hours at the dealership. From haggling over the price, going back and forth between you and the sales manager,

and doing all the other paperwork—it’s a hassle. No question about it.

But here’s what your local BMW dealer won’t tell you.

There is a whole other world out there you should know about when buying a new or pre-owned BMW. There is a way where you can find exactly the BMW that you want and at a price acceptable to you. You spend no money on gas going from dealer to dealer. You don’t have to talk to any “salesman”. And you don’t have to spend hours of your valuable time putting the deal together. Sounds like a dream come true right?

Online Auctions.

That’s right. There are many websites where you can benefit from seeing thousands of new and pre-owned BMWs. You can check out the 3 Series, 5 Series, Roadsters, M Series, X Series and any other model or year made by BMW. Online auctions are probably the most overlooked source for car buyers. It doesn’t matter if you are looking to spend ,000 or 0,000 for your BMW. Online auctions provide you with the benefits of buying safely, securely, professionally and without all the hassles.

The most popular auction site usually has from 2100 to 2500 BMWs for sale on any given day. For example, let’s take that 2006 Imora Red BMW X5 mentioned above.

On a well known auction site, here is how the listing appeared.

There were 30 detailed pictures of the cars from every angle, front, back , sides, interior, dashboard close-up, steering wheel close-up, driver seat controls, passenger A/C system, sunroof, engine, etc. In addition the potential buyers could see the VIN number, mileage, vehicle location, warranties, status of the title, plus the 88 features and options with this particular BMW X5.

Not only is nothing hidden from the potential buyers, but the buyer also gets options to order online a “Vehicle History Report” and an “Independent Inspection”. Both of these will give you peace of mind before you decide to close the deal and buy the car. In many ways an online auction is better than buying in person because it gives you more time to do your research and make a decision.

And here is a tremendous benefit to you when buying your BMW at an online auction. You get to decide exactly what price you will pay based upon your needs and the other bids offered. There is no pressure for you to pay more than you should. Plus, if you need to have your BMW shipped to you, that can also be arranged at the time of purchase.

Now you know “What All BMW Dealers Won’t Tell You”. Online auctions just might be for you.

Kaba Benzing B-COMM for SAP®R/3®-solution-based Time & Labor Terminals Provide Time Management Flexibility at BMW

Kaba Benzing B-COMM for SAP®R/3®-solution-based Time & Labor Terminals Provide Time Management Flexibility at BMW

(PRWEB) May 8, 2003

MIAMI LAKES, FLA. (PRWEB) May 6, 2003 Kaba Benzing, a subsidiary of $ 690 million Kaba Holding AG and worldwide leader in time and labor management systems, today announced that BMW extends the use of the SAP® time management component of the mySAP Human Resources (mySAP HR) solution in use at the BMW Spartanburg plant by collecting employee time and labor data with B-COMM for SAP R/3®-solution-based time and labor management system and 9380 terminals. The more than 4,700-employee BMW Spartanburg plant produces 750 vehicles daily, including 390 BMW X5 sports activity vehicles and 360 Z4 roadsters. To do so, the plant is open six days per week and uses flexible working hour models.

Â?Based on forecasts of high demand for the new sports activity vehicle, we needed to ramp up production of the X5 quickly,Â? reports Wayne Pressley, BMW section manager. Â?That meant we needed to change shift patterns and our old time management system could not handle that. Our first Kaba Benzing terminals were installed at the body shop in March of 2001.

Â?We had also made the switch to the SAP time management component of mySAP HR and needed to have our time clocks and time data collection interface with the SAP solution,Â? Pressley adds. Â?We wanted to ease implementation by selecting a SAP partner with a certified interface. Kaba Benzing interfaces with more than 700 installations of SAP solutions around the world. B-COMM for SAP R/3 offers great functionality off the shelf and the Kaba Benzing America team was able to quickly create a custom application to support our unique needs. We were live in just 60 days after our first meeting.Â?

B-COMM for SAP R/3 links Kaba Benzing terminals and other hardware data devices to SAP R/3, Releases 3.1 to 4.6. It automates and validates the collection of employee and labor data for entry into SAP solutions, including mySAP Human Resources (mySAP HR, time management), mySAP Product Lifecycle Management (including product planning, plant maintenance and project system), SAP Cross Application Time Sheet (CATS) and the employee self-service capabilities of mySAP HR.

The core of the software is a SAP-certified interface software that helps ensure faultless data exchange between the individual SAP applications and the data collection devices. This interface is kept current with all new SAP technical developments. All data maintenance takes place in the SAP solution.

Â?B-COMM is a reliable interface between the terminals and data collection server to our SAP solution-based system,Â? says Pressley. Â?The terminals can store punches if the system goes down, ensuring that we always have accurate information. We transfer data from the data collection server to the SAP solution-based server every 30 minutes, posting the data to time management.Â?

At installation, the body shop had to be up and running first. Since BMW employees had been using RFID-based (proximity) ID badges, Kaba Benzing initially provided them with touch screen terminals and went to work creating the proximity credential reader. Within six months, all employees were able to clock in with their proximity ID badges. BMW had Kaba Benzing create a special transaction to cover instances in which an employee forgets his ID badge. As a result, employees can simply clock in using the touchscreen, which Pressley reports is a much easier and more expeditious way than creating a special time card for one day only.

Today, four of the color, touchscreen 9380 time and labor terminals are placed at the main entrance of the 1.5 million square foot main production building where the majority of employees enter. They are also implemented at other entrances and at the training and development center, maintenance shop and additional buildings. The goal, in all cases, is to place the terminals as close to the employeeÂ?s individual production center as possible.

Â?As our plant expands, we will add more terminals,Â? Pressley states. Â?After all, this is the system that collects our peopleÂ?s work hours to determine their pay.Â?

A Brief History of Bmw Motor Cars

The BMW story starts way back in 1913 with the formation of the Rapp-Motorenwerke company by Karl Rapp. The firm were engaged in the production of aircraft engines from a former bicycle factory located near Munich. It was close to this plant that Gustav Otto established the Bayerische Flugzeugwerke AG aircraft factory and in 1922 these two organisations merged to form BMW. The letters stand for: Bayerische Motoren Werke.

In their early years BMW produced mainly aircraft engines, but also some motorcycle engines. In fact the BMW badge is supposed to resemble a spinning aircraft propeller. It wasn’t until 1928 when BMW bought a car factory at Eisenach/Thuringia that BMW began producing cars. Along with the factory they bought the licence to produce a small car called the Dixi. The first cars produced by BMW at the plant were badged BMW Dixi, but the word Dixi was soon dropped. They introduced a new model called the BMW 3/15 DA-2 and the success of this car enabled them to survive the great depression.

It was in 1936 that BMW introduced the type 328 roadster which quickly became the most successful sports car of the time. The 328, designed by Fritz Fiedler, featured a number of innovative features including a stylish, aerodynamic body shape. It used an inline 6-cylinder engine which gave the car excellent performance and it was renowned for its excellent handling. The type 328 roadster accumulated a number of prestigious wins on the racing circuit and was nominated as car of the century in 1999.

]]>

BMW’s involvement in aircraft engine production during WWII led to a 3 year ban on production at the end of the war. It wasn’t until 1949 that they were able to return to production which they did with the 250cc R24 motorcycle.

It was in 1951 that BMW introduced a spacious, 6-cylinder sedan called the 501. This was followed by the 502 which featured a lightweight alloy V8 engine. Later in the 1950s they began producing the BMW 507, a lightweight, V8 propelled sports car. This was the vehicle they hoped would revive the sporting success they’d achieved with the 328 roadster. But this wasn’t to be. They were losing money on every 507 that was produced and so production stopped in 1960.

Also during the 1950s BMW bought the design and manufacturing rights to the Isetta which was to become one of the most successful microcars in the post WWII years. It was a time when cheap, short distance transportation was much needed and the 2-seater, with an economical 250cc engine, fit the requirements nicely. Manufacturing rights for the Isetta were sold to various production companies around the world and these included the British Railways works in Brighton, UK.

The 1960s saw BMW enjoying a number of notable successes including the BMW 1500 which was a 1499cc, four cylinder touring sedan introduced in 1961. This was the first of the modern BMW sports sedans. They went on to produce a series of popular sedans including the famous BMW 2002. This was a 2-door sedan that had been based upon the 4-door 1600. The 2002 was to be the forerunner of the BMW 3 series and production of this successful model continued until 1976.

By the 1970s BMW had cemented their reputation as an innovative automobile manufacturing company. The 70s saw the introduction of the 3-tier sports sedan range consisting of the 3-series, 5-series and the 7-series. Between 1970 and 1993 BMW car production quadrupled and turnover increased by 1700%.

The 1990s, after 1994, saw BMW take ownership of the British Rover Group. This was not a successful venture and in 2000 BMW disposed of Rover.

Today’s ‘beemers’ have retained their highly prestigious reputation for quality and reliability. The company are taking steps to reduce the impact they and their motor cars have upon the environment so we can expect to see more innovative and exciting developments from the motor car company who have not only survived two world wars and a massive depression, but thrived.

The BMW headlights are unique in that they are the right combination of style, safety and utility. The latest in the BMW headlights category are the xenon light. The earlier headlights used to be halogen based and the light from them is not as bright as the xenon headlights. These are very powerful and offer a very good view at nights. They also prove their worth in rough weather like the fog or rain where visibility is very low. The BMW headlights based on xenon cut through the fog enabling a smooth drive in zero visibility conditions as well.

BMW Convertible Top-Check out the Incredible Variety before You Buy!

Older model BMW convertible tops were a cloth or vinyl soft top, which adds a higher degree of customizability for the vehicle owner from one of the world’s leading automobile brands, than do hard tops or newer retractable hard tops. Like their hard top counterparts, the soft top convertible tops or roofs are basically fixed to the vehicle by means of a metal top frame that is hinged and folds away behind the rear seats of a car into a convertible top boot. The convertible tops allow flexibility to the structure of the automobile. The automobile can be changed from a closed, confined vehicle to an open air one, usually at a push of a button.

Types of BMW convertible tops:

Of course, the type of convertible top you need is dependant on the type of vehicle you have. BMW developed a variety of convertible models over the years. One of the most popular BMW models with a soft top option is the BMW 3-Series for model years 1972 through 2006. Model years after 2006 have a retractable hard top option, which are more expensive and not as flexible in material and color choice as a soft top. There are also models that are standard with convertible tops such as the sporty and very popular BMW Z3 and M Roadster, and BMW Z4 and M Roadster.

With a BMW convertible top, soft top, you have a variety of color and material options when replacing your top compared to a retractable hard top. This gives you more flexibility in your budget by allowing you to change the material or color to customize your BMW.

Specifications of the different models

BMW 3-series: The BMW 3-series of 1987-1993 are available in three varieties of topping material – German classic, Twillfast II, and Stayfast. These BMW convertible tops have windows made of plastic usually with a green tint. The standard color options available are black, brown and blue, however more options are available at different price points. The BMW 3-series of 1994-1996 were originally manufactured with Haartz Twillfast II topping material. You should look for tops with factory plastic retainers attached, which makes installation easier. It is recommended that the tension straps are also replaced at the time of replacing the convertible top as these wear out. The BMW 3-series of 1994-99 variety has different headliners to choose from depending on the year, manual lock or power lock option on the vehicle, and top frame configuration. The headliners come in a charcoal (dark gray) shade and are available in a variety of patterns to fit two and three bow configurations and if the top is a manual or power lock. Some vehicles are equipped with an automated system, allowing the driver to close the top simply with the push of a button. Other models have a manual latching system, which must be operated by hand. The 2000-2006 series of BMW convertible tops have all the regular features of the earlier series, in addition to Haartz Twillfast RPC topping material. This has superior acoustic properties than the earlier Twillfast II.

BMW Z3: The BMW Z3 Roadster convertible tops, in the early models, had some design flaws that were corrected. Some of the design corrections included addition of relief pockets, a stiffener over the plastic window, and inclusion of elastic straps to provide extra support to the tension straps.

BMW Z4: The BMW Z4 series use the same Haartz Twillfast RPC topping material of the earlier series, and are available in three variety of colors, including beige, grey, and black.

So if you are the owner of a BMW car, you have plenty of choices to make it look unique and classy with the various convertible tops available. Sophistication, affordability, durability and style are the keywords of BMW convertible tops. Get one today.

A British Couple Participating in One of the Greatest Modern Day Challenges has Received Official Confirmation They Have Successfully Broken the Worlds most Demanding World Record

A British Couple Participating in One of the Greatest Modern Day Challenges has Received Official Confirmation They Have Successfully Broken the Worlds most Demanding World Record

(PRWEB) November 2, 2005

Simon and Monika “Spirits of Adventure” have not only exceeded the previous world record by 21,000 kilometers they are more than half way to their second world record of 102 countries in one journey and its an adventure they expect to complete by 2007. Incredibly for Monika this is her first journey after only four days of lessons – from novice to world record breaker in 1400 days.

Simon a former Chief Petty Officer in the Submarine Service and Monika are quick to thank BMW GB for their sponsorship and have no doubt his training in the Royal Navy where he served for 20 years played a major part in their record success. The Royal Navy and of course a new generation BMW motorbikes gave me the confidence to challenge the world’s most demanding terrain and not once did we ever consider quitting.

Simon and Monika riding two powerful new generation BMW motorcycles (BMW R1150GS and BMW F650GS) have completed a total overland circumnavigation of the world from West to East namely Dublin Ireland to St Johns Newfoundland North America. They have transited 54 countries and rode above the Arctic circle on three different continents.

Wherever they have been, they have been well-received by kind and generous people. In Kazakhstan, a new state of Russia, they were given an apartment stocked with food and a tour of the city by the Department of Tourism and taken to a traditional dinner banquet where they were served horse testicles and sheep’s eyes. The mayor of the city presented them with a beautiful handmade rug. In his speech he said to the Newbound’s, “Your adventure and courage are what we in Kazakhstan are all about.”

In Mongolia they rode and lived amongst the Nomads. In China they were given permission to camp on the Great Wall of China and in North America they experience unparalleled generosity, which meant being adopted in almost every state and province they visited and given personal tours of the local attractions.

Simon and Monika are delighted to be back in England, It has been three and a half years since we saw our families, it will certainly an emotional day when we see the returning heroes of the British Army which includes our daughter Kelly a member of the Royal Logistic Corp based near Andover.

Simon and Monika are quick to say although we live in troubled times we are delighted to say through our adventure and experiences that to ride two BMW motorbikes around the world is a incredible life changing experience. When people in foreign countries see us on our motorbikes it always brings out the best in them, it makes them smile, it makes them dream, it makes them want to be part of our adventure.

Simon and Monika would also like to thank the British Embassies around the world and the FCO Travel departments for their up to the minute advice.

Charity

Simon and Monika now they have received confirmation of their world record success are selling Simon bike for charity and hoping to raise 50,000 sterling for ward 15 of the Royal Manchester Hospital. BIKE Money to be paid directly to the charitys department of the RMCH.

The Newbound’s providing they can get sponsorship which they desperately need to continue their double record quest have no doubts they have the stamina to complete the double world record challenge even though what they have undertaken is a serious test of their ability, endurance, diplomacy. We have the drive and enthusiasm and we ride new generation BMW motorcycles, we have been a great team and have no doubt we will achieve our goals. “Living the dream and experiencing the world’s rich diversity of culture is what we have both looked forward to.” For Simon and Monika the new endurance GUINNESS WORLD RECORD HOLDERS, freedom is a soul with wheels.

Simon and Monika are seeking sponsors to help them achieve their double record quest. Simon who has the determination of somebody who has served in the military all his adult life and says “We have come so far to smash the the first world record surely there is somebody that will help us fly the flag for Great Britain so we can achieve in full, our objectives of breaking two world records. Please please help us.”

DV Video and High Quality ImaSimon and Monika have ges available for Broadcast.

We chose the BMW bikes because of the extensive dealer network, their unparalleled reputation in the field of adventure travel. Simon says he wanted shaft drive because it was maintenance free and the shaft would easily out last 30 chain and sprocket sets. The fuel injection system allows them to cope with high altitude and various octane changes. Monika chose the F650GS because you can fill the petrol tank full whilst it is on the side stand, it has a low centre of gravity and more than anything because of their lack of our lack of mechanical knowledge they both insisted on bikes that where low maintenance and all terrain. Their decision has been totally justified because after 185,000 kilometers their has not been any serious problems and Simon says it was 51000 miles before the R1150GS needed a tappet adjustment.

They used Sony Vaio Laptop, Walkmans and DV Camera which lasted the test of time and still as good today as when we departed.

We used Canon Cameras which excelled in every department and every terrain and condition.

They are using Gamin GPS and BMW GPS Navigation Systems which is essential for Navigation, Auto routing, Gamin GPS and BMW Navigation Systems provides Safety assurance as we can have exact routes and data points entered before the days journey starts and Gamin GPS provides the proof of their track logs.

Simon and Monika use Bill Mayor saddles which allows them to be comfortably seated for up to 10 hours and 800 kilometers per day.

Jesse Luggage systems provide the aluminium panniers which provide security, waterproof and quick release storage systems. Jesse Luggage Systems are robust and perfectly designed for such adventures as ours with a capacity of over 500 litres they provide Simon and Monika with the storage they need. Jesse luggage systems provide the following system facilities, water proof, lightweight, secure, aerodynamic, quick release, 10 litre water storage, Tent stowage, external racks, clothes bags, auxiliary electric feed harness and sockets.

“Robb Report Collection offers a compendium of fast, alternative fuel vehicles—from hybrid-powered sports and luxury cars that substantially reduce carbon output, to hydrogen concepts and powerful prototypes that promise to eliminate emissions altogether,” said Gregory Anderson, Senior Automotive Editor of Robb Report, adding that because no other consumer car magazine has devoted such detailed attention to the topic, “this issue serves as a green guide to the future of fuel, a trend that will likely be led by the upper end of the market.” He continued, “The number of green luxury and sports cars only seems to be growing, as does consumer awareness of the need to wean ourselves away from petroleum.”

The luxury auto market leaders profiled in this special issue set out to prove that horsepower, miles per gallon and aesthetic excellence need not be compromised in the name of a greener earth.

Mercedes-Benz is utilizing the Bluetec system in a new line of diesel-engines which significantly reduce carbon emissions while keeping an impressive range of 700+ miles on a single tank. Powered by ULSD (Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel) fuel, the $ 52,325 Mercedes E320 Bluetec delivers on looks, speed and performance. The vehicle has a top speed of 155 mph and gets 26 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway.

A fast, sleek sports car that even Greenpeace members can love, the Lotus Exige 265E combines beauty and brains with an eco conscience. Lotus developed the Exige 265E in order to comply with new laws requiring that all cars sold in the United States be compatible with ethanol-based fuels by 2017. The car runs on E85 – a fuel comprising of 85 percent bioethanol and 15 percent unleaded gasoline, which emits approximately 70 percent fewer harmful carbons than cars using unleaded gasoline. The Lotus Exige 265E also has impressive power: Its 264 horsepower takes it from zero to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and achieves a top seed of 158 mph.

For the moment, BMW’s Hydrogen engineering is priceless. The new Hydrogen 7 is not for sale to the general public; instead BMW will loan 100 of these models to influential individuals worldwide, half of them in the United States. The Hydrogen 7 engine switches the standard petroleum power source to a liquid hydrogen auxiliary, achieving a 435 mile range.

Audi’s concept car Q7 SUV, equipped with a 6.0-liter turbodiesel V-12 engine, uses the same Bluetec emissions technology as Mercedes-Benz. Though currently only a concept, a production version of this particular Q7 is estimated to cost $ 90,000, accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and achieve a top seed of 155 mph. Currently, buyers can purchase the Q7 model with a 3.0 liter, alternative V-6 turbodiesel engine.

Hummer is not typically identified as “eco-friendly.” But Cyclone Energy, a California-based company that seeks to eliminate automotive CO2, has created a hydrogen-configuration prototype for GM’s Hummer. The $ 63,455 hydrogen-powered conversion vehicle increases fuel efficiency by 15 percent, eliminating the emission of approximately one pound of toxic CO2 per mile.

In addition to covering the latest green cars, this special issue of The Robb Report Collection also includes an essay by physicist Amory Lovins. The cofounder and CEO of the nonprofit think tank Rocky Mountain Institute (http://www.rmi.org), Lovins discusses many other significant developments the luxury car market will undergo in the near term, including the future of fuel.

Osh Minelian & Dream Machine Engineering Featured on NBC Show “WHIPNOTICS”

Osh Minelian & Dream Machine Engineering Featured on NBC Show “WHIPNOTICS”

Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) April 2, 2008

Mario Solis’ KNBC show WHIPNOTICS is dedicated to the “whips”, or project cars, brought to life by the horse power addicts who dare to dream them up. Soon they will feature a unique story about a shared dream, and an unusual partnership, between a world class surgeon and a legendary tuner, Dr. Robert Bray of D.I.S.C. Spine & Sports Center and Osh Minelian, of Dream Machine Engineering.

The dream began three years ago, when Dr. Bray felt the need for supercharged speed, and decided the time was now for his creature to come to life. He read about the pioneering work of Osh Minelian and his DME team on BMW’s and other European high performance engines. He and his son Garret approached Osh and they began to think outside the factory, imagining an M5 with revolutionary after-cooler, block and supercharger innovations that would support a staggering 2000 HP platform.

Osh began researching, designing and engineering DME’s proprietary after-cooling system: a unique air to liquid cooler that is integrated into the manifold. This component was based on the groundbreaking design work first introduced by Osh in ’94, and since copied and used by countless competitors. Given the awesome power being generated this system was crucial. For this monster it was only a piece in a special puzzle. Next came more DME specific innovations, like Osh’s re-engineered block, using steel cylinder sleeves, another idea that has been attempted by others for these engines, but done successfully by no one before DME. Ultimately Osh’s ‘factory-correct’ obsessive attention to detail and engineering innovation led to his special supercharger package, delivering serious power and speed to Dr. Bray’s Monster E39 M5.

For his part, Dr. Bray delivered something no High Performance Tuner has ever had access to before: Advanced Scanning Technology. As a twenty year veteran of over nine thousand spinal surgeries, Dr. Bray has been instrumental in the development of countless tools and inserts now commonly used in microsurgical procedures. He was a part of the testing and design process in the powerful Zeiss Microscope development (the microscope that set the standard for microsurgery), and holds many patents of his own. He and Osh have taken their collaboration to another level, using this technology as well as the ultra-powerful Seimens Helical CT Scanner to examine design elements and parts. Dr. Bray suggested using both of these tools, as a means to subject the design parts to a microscopic examination, one able to detect any flaws or weaknesses at a level unheard of until this team proved it practical and extremely useful. Their collaboration led to the car that prowls the streets of Los Angeles today, an 850 HP, supercharged “Monster”, that according to Dr. Bray “eats anything on the road alive”.

According to Osh, Dr. Bray and his sons Spencer and Garret, “the goal always was to conceive and build the fastest BMW M5 on the streets of L.A.” From our standpoint, given that L.A. is and always has been the beating heart of the performance car world, the Monster may be the fastest on the streets, anywhere.

So after hundreds of hours of manifold and engine design and engineering, thousands of hours of research, manufacture and testing, and countless innovations, the monster takes only seconds to make everyone who sees it go by in a blur realize…”IT’S ALIVE!”

Birmingham Plastic Surgeon Receives Breast Cancer Awareness Award

Birmingham Plastic Surgeon Receives Breast Cancer Awareness Award

Birmingham, Alabama (PRWEB) April 10, 2008

BMW’s “Local Hero” award has been given to Dr. Michael S. Beckenstein (http://www.msbmd.com), whose practice offers reconstructive and cosmetic surgery in Birmingham for women and men from all walks of life. The award, which was established to raise awareness for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, recognizes Dr. Beckenstein’s work to help eradicate breast cancer.

“I’m honored to be chosen as a ‘Hero’ in the local community,” says Dr. Beckenstein. “While I’ve done quite a bit to help women get the breast cancer resources they need, the reality is that there are hundreds of dedicated men and women in Birmingham who devote their time to raising awareness and finding a cure. I feel that anyone out there making a difference on this issue should be considered a ‘Hero.’”

Dr. Beckenstein is highly regarded for founding and continuing to operate the Breast Surgery Center of Alabama in conjunction with his reconstructive and cosmetic surgery practice in Birmingham. At the Center, a number of special services are offered for comprehensive breast cancer care. These services include a support system that pairs patients with similar backgrounds, emotional counseling specifically targeted to the needs of women with breast cancer, and physical therapy using customized treatment protocols.

“My staff and I have worked hard to make the Breast Surgery Center of Alabama a total success,” says Dr. Beckenstein. “While I dedicate a large part of my practice to cosmetic surgery for Birmingham residents and believe in the strength and vitality that comes from looking your best, my specialty training and my ongoing passion remain in helping people live healthier, happier lives through reconstructive surgery.”

The BMW Ultimate Drive is a grassroots program to raise awareness of breast cancer issues and raise money to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure. During the event, members of the local community test drive vehicles, with $ 1.00 donated to the foundation for every mile driven. The program has raised more than $ 11,000,000 for breast cancer research and awareness since it began in 1997.

In addition to receiving the “Local Hero” award, Birmingham plastic surgeon Dr. Beckenstein had his photograph affixed to the Signature Vehicle, which will showcase pictures of people across the country who have helped in the effort to find a breast cancer cure.

This award is not the first Dr. Beckenstein has received for his efforts to help women battling breast cancer. He was also awarded the prestigious Life Inspiration Award by the American Cancer Society for the compassionate care he provides his patients. With his recognized leadership in breast cancer care and breast reconstruction, Dr. Beckenstein is the doctor of choice for many women who have chosen breast reconstruction.

Dr. Michael S. Beckenstein (http://www.msbmd.com) is a board-certified Birmingham plastic surgeon whose Alabama practice offers a complete line of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, in addition to advanced skin care options. Dr. Beckenstein completed 4 post-graduate plastic surgery fellowships, with 3 of these focusing on breast reconstruction techniques. He is board-certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery and author of over 4 dozen papers, publications, and textbook chapters.
