McShea, 51, is a 25-year veteran of the Chicago real estate industry. She joined @properties in 2003 when the firm had approximately 80 licensed real estate agents and two offices. In the ensuing seven years, she has overseen the company’s expansion to more than 900 licensed agents and seven office locations throughout Chicago and the North Shore.
Under her leadership @properties, which was founded in 2000, has become the No. 1 real estate brokerage firm in the city of Chicago and the third largest real estate brokerage firm in Northern Illinois, based on sales volume (Midwest Real Estate Data, LLC).
In addition to managing day-to-day brokerage activities, McShea is responsible for recruiting, training and education. Adult Leader/Organization: Individual leaders – aged 18 and over – and non-profit organizations.
First Place: Philadelphia Orchard Project (Philadelphia, PA) – The organization works with community-based groups to transform neglected urban spaces into vibrant community-owned organic orchards filled with useful and edible plants.
Runner-up: Buffalo ReUse (Buffalo, NY) – Buffalo ReUse is a non-profit green demolition and salvage company specializing in vacant lot transformations.
School Organization: This category recognizes innovative environmental programs that are coordinated by a school or a teacher.
First Place: Mariposa Elementary School of Global Education (Agoura, CA) – Mariposa Elementary School of Global Education is an alternative school in the Las Virgenes Unified School District that teaches children through experiential, project-based lessons focused on global learning and the environment.
Runner-up: Roger Bacon High School Science Department (Cincinnati, OH) – The science department is active in a variety of environmental projects including the recycling and refurbishing of small consumer electronics and the creation of model cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
The final six Green Heroes were determined by consumers who voted online (http://www.facebook.com/greenworks) for their favorite Green Heroes Grant Program finalist between March 18 and April 18, 2010. The two finalists in each category with the most votes won a $ 15,000 first-prize and a $ 5,000 runner-up grant. Additionally, the first-place winner in the school category also received a special educational experience from Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots.

AthletiCo Physical and Occupational Therapy announces the relocation of their Champaign-Urbana physical therapy center to 2040 South Neil Street in Champaign, Illinois. The new facility is located in the Hillcrest Center across the street from the Worden Martin car dealership, a mile and a half south of downtown. Patients will benefit from the facility’s larger working space, street-level entry, and convenient parking with designated handicapped spaces.
The center will continue to be managed by Rebecca Nef-Heffernan, MHS, PT, who has been a practicing physical therapist in the Champaign-Urbana area for the past 18 years. Nef-Heffernan and her husband are long-time residents of the area, where they have raised their two children and both built long-standing careers. Her husband, Jim Heffernan, is the head wrestling coach for the Fighting Illini.
“It is very rewarding to be able to work for such a well-established company as AthletiCo and utilize my physical therapy skills to help members of my own community recover from injuries and stay healthy,” says Nef-Heffernan. “Every day I am excited to come to work and love interacting with my patients. Deery indicated that his renewed commitment to GM was based upon a recent decision to maintain Deery Brothers as a full service GM dealer including Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC, as well as, GM’s new financial strength. “Our heritage with General Motors goes back decades; many people don’t realize we have been in the transportation business for 101 years, even longer than General Motors.”
“Over the past couple of years GM went through a major restructuring which has resulted in the company being financially stronger now than they have ever been”, said Deery. “They have always produced some of the best vehicles in the market and it’s clear to me that the quality and innovation of GM vehicles will continue”.

The dealership will include a 25,000 Sq. ft. facility adjacent to Deery’s current 200 South Gear Ave. location in West Burlington. Deery noted that his loyal GM customers deserve this new facility for GM warranty work and local service. For now, the 200 South Gear Ave. location in West Burlington continues to service GM vehicles as it has for decades. The new dealership will provide additional customer amenities and even faster service. In addition, Deery will be adding at least another 25 employees in what will be the newest and most modern automotive dealership in Southeastern Iowa, Western Illinois and Northern Missouri.
Now that GM has repaid their loan to the Federal Government, Deery decided the investment in his GM customers was a healthy decision and has brought in General Motors veteran Ira Mitchell, a General Motors specialist of over 26 years, to spearhead the new initiative.
