Karsan Hails Results of New York City?s Taxi of Tomorrow Survey
Karsan Hails Results of New York City’s Taxi of Tomorrow Survey
New York (PRWEB) February 14, 2011
The Taxi of Tomorrow proposal by auto manufacturer Karsan emerged as the clear and convincing favorite among the more than 22,000 men and women who participated in a recent survey conducted by the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission.
When asked their opinion on the taxi designs of the three finalists in the Taxi of Tomorrow competition, 65.5 percent of the respondents expressed a favorable view of the Karsan V1 taxi, compared to just 38 percent for the Ford design and 42.4 percent for the Nissan (full survey results here: http://www.nyc.gov/html/tlc/downloads/pdf/tot_survey_results_02_10_11.pdf).
Even more impressively, 38.9 percent of those who took the survey said that they LOVE the Karsan V1 design, compared to just 14.6 percent for the Ford and 11.7 percent for Nissan.
A number of unique features offered only by Karsan also scored well on the City’s official taxi survey. More than half of the respondents (50.9 percent) said that a “sunroof for better views of the city” was an important feature for the Taxi of Tomorrow. Of the three finalists, only Karsan has designed a taxi to include a panoramic glass roof, offering spectacular views of the City’s iconic skyline and landmarks.
In addition, an overwhelming 86.4 percent of the survey respondents said it is important that the Taxi of Tomorrow have the “ability to carry four passengers seated in the same compartment.” Karsan has designed its taxi with enough room to allow for four passengers to sit comfortably, in individual seats, in the main passenger compartment. The entries from both Ford and Nissan require the fourth passenger to sit up front with the driver, as is typical in New York’s current fleet of taxis.
While the TLC survey did not ask for specific views on the importance of accessibility, other surveys, public hearings and the TLC’s original request for taxi proposals have demonstrated that this is an important element. Of the three finalists, only the Karsan V1 would allow New York City to become the world’s first city with a fleet that is 100 percent accessible and compliant with the historic Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Karsan executives said, “We are proud to enjoy such tremendous support from New Yorkers for our Taxi of Tomorrow proposal. We at Karsan recognized that this is the most important auto competition going on in the world and assembled our best team of engineers and designers to create a taxi that specifically meets the needs of New York City and its taxi-riding public. Our design incorporates every attribute deemed important to New Yorkers, including an ability to accommodate advances in environmental technology and provide the highest standards of passenger comfort. New Yorkers agree that Karsan’s Taxi of Tomorrow will restore the New York City taxi to its rightful place as a world icon, much as it was in the glory days of New York’s Checker Cabs. The Karsan taxi is all about comfort, access, sustainability and durability. This is what New Yorkers want, and this is what Karsan delivers.”
The City’s official survey mirrors the results of similar surveys. A recent online survey conducted by the New York Daily News found that 75 percent of respondents preferred the Karsan V1 over Ford and Nissan, while a Crain’s New York Business online survey gave Karsan the edge at 52 percent, compared to 22 percent for Ford and 20 percent for Nissan. More than two-thirds of respondents prefer Karsan in an ongoing poll on the independent TaxiofTomorrow.com website.
After analyzing New York City’s request for its Taxi of Tomorrow, Karsan concluded that the only feasible way to meet the City’s rigorous technical requirements was with a purpose-built vehicle specially designed to be a taxi, rather than by retrofitting an existing regular production model sedan or van to adapt to taxi needs. No auto manufacturer in the world is currently producing custom-designed taxis, as Checker once did.
The company that receives the Taxi of Tomorrow bid will have exclusive selling rights to the New York City taxi market for a ten year period, an estimated 2,650 vehicles per year.
Karsan, founded in 1966, brings over 40 years of experience as an international multi-branded commercial vehicle producer, providing services to the world’s leading brands such as Peugeot, Citroen, Renault Trucks and Hyundai.

Staten Island Nissan dealers appreciate direction of Nissan electric technology
A Nissan golf cart, anyone? Okay, it’s not quite that bad, but Nissan’s two-passenger electric vehicle is just a step toward the finished product. Staten Island Nissan customers can be sure that it will be an actual car, with zero emissions, when Nissan has it ready for market.
Nissan plans to produce about 250,000 electric vehicles per year and with the Leaf coming to dealerships this month. Who knows how this new vehicle will fit into the mix, but Nissan presses onward.
With the huge popularity of the new Leaf, pre-orders coming in faster than it could be produced and customers on a waiting list now, this new vehicle, whatever it turns out to be, will prove to be an advance in technology and probably something that Nissan will make a profit on.
Hoboken used Nissan customers can find a wide selection of pre-owned Nissan models and certified pre-owned models that will meet their needs and their budgets.
]]>
Nissan also has a commitment from its partner Renault SA in France to produce an additional 250,000 electric vehicles each year, and along with Japanese electronics firm NEC Corp, Nissan plans to manufacture 500,000 batteries for electric cars each year.
Corporate Vice President Hideaki Watanabe said that Nissan’s 18 years of experience developing lithium-ion batteries and the fact that the company developed its first electric vehicle in 1947 make it ripe for producing electric cars in large quantities.
This new small Nissan New Mobility Concept can run 62 miles with a maximum speed of 47 mph. Not quite competitive yet as a commuter car, but certainly acceptable as a golf cart at this point. Seriously, though, Nissan has been rather tight-lipped about it, so we don’t know what improvements to expect and what the target market might be.
I’m sure they will surprise us and it will be greatly sought-after as is the Nissan Leaf, which sort of came out of nowhere. Hoboken used Nissan buyers may have to wait awhile for this mystery car as we did for the Leaf. But if the Concept is as impressive as the Leaf, it will certainly be worth the wait.
Your Staten Island Nissan dealer will be watching for any new developments on the New Mobility Concept front and let you know as soon as anything is announced. In the meantime, those of use wanting an eco-friendly model should get our names on a list for the Leaf. It’s here and it’s one of the cleanest cars around.
Green technology and zero emissions are something Nissan continues to improve and develop and we can expect to see cleaner, faster and more efficient vehicles as that research continues. Just the improvements in battery life and speed in the last few years are wroth raving about.

Sands Auto Group’s Internet Engine Races with OpenDNS
Sands Auto Group’s Internet Engine Races with OpenDNS
San Francisco (PRWEB) June 6, 2007
OpenDNS, the award-winning DNS provider that makes the Internet safer, faster, smarter and more reliable, today announced Sands Auto Group is using OpenDNS instead of the faulty and unreliable DNS service it gets by default from its ISP. Sands Auto Group is an American five-location automotive dealership selling new and used Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, Jeep Nissan and Suzuki cars and trucks. OpenDNS is the world’s largest, fastest-growing DNS service.
Pennsylvania-based Sands Auto Group has a fast-moving staff of 80 employees who rely on the Internet to access information quickly and efficiently. If the Internet is temporarily inaccessible due to an intermittent DNS outage, sales efforts are slowed. OpenDNS provides the Sands Auto Group system administrator peace of mind about Internet availability and an array of user benefits like phishing protection, custom domain blocking and typo correction.
Since switching to OpenDNS, Sands Auto Group has enjoyed 100 percent Internet uptime and Erik Kayhart, System Administrator at Sands Auto Group, says the Internet experience at Sands is noticeably better than at other automotive dealerships and companies.
“OpenDNS is great,” said Kayhart. “It’s always fast, it’s always available, and it is a great help with commonly made typos.”

Nissan 80Z – Will History Repeat Itself?
Nissan resurrected the Z models several years back after a hiatus. The original Z series of cars that began with the Datsun 240Z in the 1970s and continued through the Nissan 3000ZX of the 1990s produced several best selling cars for the Japanese company. As the initial Z series aged the engine displacement increased and the numerical portion of the Z model mane increased also. From the initial 240Z through the 260Z and the 280Z Datsun and Nissan stayed true to the formula of an affordable sports car for the masses. The car was fun to drive and provided entry level sports performance. Later in its life cycle the 3000ZX cars became a version of a super car for Nissan. The pricing rose dramatically and options such as turbo chargers were added to increase horsepower and price. The original Z series was discontinued because it had become too expensive and sales had fallen off dramatically.
Rebirth of The Z Car
In 2002 Nissan resurrected the Z series with a newer version of the iconic sports car. This was meant to be a return to the roots of affordable sports car with a powerful engine that produced good torque and provided a sporting car for the entry level buyer. Through the 2009 model year the 350 Z continued in production with various models and designations. The convertible became very popular as did several special editions that were offered for sale. For 2009 the model became the Nissan 370Z as the engine became larger in displacement, to 3.7 liters. The car managed also to increase in pricing. The convertible was reborn also making reappearance in 2010. Pricing was now in the ,000.00 range for the two seat roadster.
Future of The Z Car
The Nissan 370Z continues into the 2012 model year. The car is still the entry level sports offering by Nissan. It is just that the entry point has gotten higher. There are rumors and spy photos of the new Nissan 380Z car that is being tested in Japan. This is a new supercar offered by Nissan. The vehicle is based on the Nisan Fairlady car that is the Z version sold in several international markets including Japan. The body is somewhat wider and lower to the ground than the Z car offerings. Fenders appear to be wider and flared to house larger wheels and tires. The Body style appears to be more rounded than the current Z cars also. What differentiates the proposed 380Z from the existing 370Z though is the engine.
Motivation for the new vehicle will be provided by the engine from the Nissan GTR. Godzilla’s fire breathing 3.8 liter engine with twin turbo charging could be fitted into the Nissan body. NIMSO, the Nissan sport and racing tuner division, has already been testing versions of the Fairlady with the 3.8 liter engine. The Nissan 380Z RS is being track tested and has been competing in several race series. The 380Z RS currently is a track only car that is driven in racing series. Nissan and NISMO are testing various alternatives for a road version of the 380Z. Maybe the consumer market is ready for another Nissan super Z or maybe this will be a repeat of the late 1990s when the car became too much for too few and almost disappeared forever.

New Survey Says Mazda Drivers Are Happier
New Survey Says Mazda Drivers Are Happier
Perth, WA (PRWEB) August 22, 2007
Western Australian motorists who drive Mazdas are happier with their cars than drivers of other top selling vehicles according to the results of a recent vehicle ownership satisfaction study conducted by the R.A.C and one of the world’s leading market research organisations, J.D. Power and Associates.
The study focuses on the owners of vehicles up to three years old (cars manufactured in 2004 or later) and compiles an overall customer satisfaction index or C.S.I. based on the vehicle owners’ answers to a range of questions.
Mazda ranked highest in the report with an overall C.S.I. score of 799 (out of a possible 1000) ahead of Honda with 793, Toyota with 775 followed closely by Subaru and Nissan.
The average C.S.I of all vehicles up to 3 years old surveyed was 768 and Mitsubishi (766), Ford (761), Holden (755), Hyundai (745) and Kia (736) all finished below that score.
“The report gives our members an objective measure of vehicle ownership satisfaction to help them choose their next car,” said R.A.C Executive Manager Member Advocacy David Moir.
“It also shows car manufacturers the areas they need to improve in to improve sales.
“The survey is good news for Japanese car manufacturers with them occupying the top six spots on the overall C.S.I index.
“It is interesting that the Australian brands Ford and Holden finish down the list in the customer satisfaction index,” said Mr Moir.
To see the full results of the survey visit the R.A.C Media Centre.
The study also looked at how each car brand performed in the areas of reliability, vehicle appeal, service satisfaction, ownership costs, loyalty and advocacy.
Mazda and Honda topped the list for reliability and vehicle appeal whereas Nissan scored highest in the field of service satisfaction. Honda and Nissan were rated as having the most affordable ownership costs.
Owners of Toyotas were more brand loyal than any other car owners with 94 per cent of respondents who owned a Toyota indicating they would probably or definitely buy a Toyota the next time they bought a new vehicle.
They were also most likely to recommend the brand to others with ninety nine percent of owners saying they would probably or definitely recommend Toyota to others.
For more details on the study and how older vehicles scored visit the R.A.C Media Centre.
