Volvo Focuses Attention to Gen Y With C70
In the global automotive world, one car company stands out as the producer of the safest cars. Volvo, the Sweden-based Ford-owned car brand, has always been the trendsetter when it comes to safety features. This dedication to produce safe cars has even led to what some people would call a “boring” design.
But Volvo engineers have been working to produce a car with safety features and good looks combined. In the past ten years, Volvo has said goodbye to boxy designs and is developing and producing vehicles that are aimed at the younger generation of car buyers. The Volvo S40 and the Volvo C30 are two of the best looking cars from the company which shows their wholehearted efforts to produce safe and stylish vehicles. Another model though that is attracting the attention of more aesthetically tuned car buyers is the Volvo C70 convertible.
The Volvo C70 is the successor of the Volvo 780 and it is currently competing with popular models such as the Saab 9-3, the Audi A4 Cabriolet, and the Volkswagen Eos. It joined the youth oriented models in Volvo’s lineup in 1997 and since then, it has been turning heads. Some automotive experts think that the Volvo C70 is one of the most stylish vehicles to have been produced by Volvo. Of course, the fact that it is a convertible has a lot to do with its appealing form.
While the Volvo C70 has a high aesthetic value because of it being a convertible, it also suffers some drawbacks for the same reason. For one, luggage capacity is minimal. Once you have the top down, the already limited trunks space shrinks even further.
But Volvo designed an ingenious solution for this. With a touch of a button, a mechanism forces the folded roof upward against the top of the trunk. Once that step is done, it is just a matter of sliding in your limited luggage into the car’s trunk. Once the luggage is safely stowed away, just simply release the forced up folded roof, close the trunk’s lid and you are ready to go. Volvo C70 owners can also use the second row of seats to hold their cargo. The limited legroom of the second row of seats makes it more suitable to hold cargoes than passengers.
The interior of the vehicle is what Volvo would call Scandinavian luxury. Combining simplicity and luxurious features, Volvo has made the C70 one of the vehicles in its class with the most appealing interior. The floating console is also an integral feature of the C70. The said feature has earned the praise of Volvo consumers.
The tone of the interior of the C70 is aluminum with black surrounds. This gives the inside of the C70 a simplistic but luxurious appeal. A luxury feature of the Volvo C70 includes heated seats which is, of course, a necessity on Sweden’s icy and chilled roads. The most notable feature of the C70, of course, is the three-piece folding roof which is quickly stowed away with a touch of a button. This feature though can only be used once the car is stationary.
The Volvo C70’s looks is complemented by a powerful engine. Under the C70’s stylish hood lies a 2.5-liter five-cylinder, turbocharged engine that has been made to be very capable of producing 217 horsepower at 5,000 revs per minute. The said power output is more than enough for the compact convertible. With that much power and the vehicle’s relative small frame, the engine and the host of ,Volvo C70 parts, the vehicle is reported to achieve speeds of a hundred kilometers per hour from a stationary position in just 8 seconds. All in all, this convertible from Volvo is a solid car which can give its competitors a good run for their money.

2007 Volvo S80: First V8 Volvo Sedan
http://discountautobuying.com/
In 1998, Volvo added the S80 to their lineup as their entry to the midsize luxury car market. During that time, the S80 immediately became a standout in its class in terms of performance and design.
It then became one of the first Volvos to have departed from the traditional boxy design that Volvo vehicles are known for. The luxury car is also aimed to attract the attention of more car buyers. Its predecessor, the Volvo 960, throughout its lifespan, has only managed to become a best seller among Volvo enthusiasts. The Volvo S80 though has managed to increase the buyer base of Volvo by offering them something new and different from the Swedish brand.
The only problem that the S80 faced in its first generation is the question of power. While most cars in its class offer huge eight or six cylinder engines, the first generation Volvo S80 only offered a choice between a five-cylinder and a six-cylinder engine.
In an effort to increase power of the relatively smaller engines, Volvo equipped them with turbochargers. This increased their engines power output but are still not in the same league as Volvo’s competition. For the 2007 model year though, Volvo made a move that became a first for them.
The second generation of Volvo S80s are now equipped with V8 unit to match the power output of rival cars. That step made the S80 the first Volvo sedan to be equipped with a V8 engine. The 3.2-liter V8 engine available for the 2007 S80 sedan is capable of producing as much as 235 units of horsepower. The engine is the same used by Volvo in the award-winning XC90 but is much smaller.
The exterior design of the first and second generation S80 looks similar and no hint of major redesign can be seen at first glance. But if one looks closely, the first generation looks boxier than the new generation S80. The hood of the 2007 Volvo S80 slopes more than the hood of its predecessors. From the outside, the Volvo S80 looks simple but it has that aura of luxury which one can surely experience inside the S80.
In what Volvo calls the “Scandinavian luxury”, the cockpit of the S80 reflects simple yet functional and luxurious design cues. Aside from the interior styling, the control units of some of the S80’s features are also simple to operate thus making them convenient for consumers. The seats offer good side and back support which gives one a feeling of comfort even if he or she is strapped to the vehicle’s seats for an extended trip. For families, the S80 offers good storage capacity. The trunk is spacious and the rear seats can be folded to provide more space for cargoes. The entertainment system is superb with an MP3-capable six-CD changer which can connect to external audio players. The push button engine start feature is also one of the more technologically advanced features that the S80 employs.
And since the S80 is a Volvo, one can expect that it will be loaded with safety features. The S80 is built around a unibody structure which gives the occupants relative safety during crashes. Materials used in the construction of the S80 differ in strength. Those which are far from passengers are not as strong as those near the passengers. This is specifically designed to absorb more energy in the event of a crash. Other safety features includes the adaptive cruise control, the BLIS or the Blind Spot Information System, the Personal Car Communicator, and adaptive bi-xenon headlights. The increased power output of the engine also needs a good braking system. The Volvo S80 is thus equipped with large ventilated disc brakes on all wheels. It is also equipped with an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution. The S80 is not only safe for its passengers but also for the environment, thanks to the Volvo catalytic converter it is equipped with.

Volvo S80 2005: Volvo’s Flagship Luxury Sedan, Versatile Volvo Auto Parts, Performance Parts, and Replacement Parts
Volvo S80 2005: Volvo’s Flagship Luxury Sedan, Versatile Volvo Auto Parts, Performance Parts, and Replacement Parts
(PRWEB) May 8, 2005
The S80 offers luxury, interior comfort and a stylish body. The suspension is highly sophisticated. It offers a smooth ride and feels extremely stable on the highway. Moreover, Volvo’s safety engineering leads the auto industry. The S80 contains standard amenities such as a rear DVD entertainment system, heated front seats, an interior air quality system, available metallic exterior paint, infrared reflective windshield, and rain-sensing wipers. Exclusively available on the T6 Premier is the optional integrated rear refrigerator, which includes a shelf compartment and four glasses. Standard features available are fog lights, Four-C Chassis, and bi-Xenon headlights. A new Sport Package is available for the 2.5T and 2.5T AWD, which includes sport seats, a five-speed automatic transmission, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Safety is what Volvo is known for, and the S80 reaches new levels. With side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags, anti-whiplash seats, as well as a sophisticated steel structure that’s computer designed around crash-resistance, the S80 achieves the coveted 5-star crash-test rating in front and side collisions, as well as a 5-star rollover-resistance rating.
Contemporary Volvos are sleek, and the S80 led that Swedish revolution applied to the rest of the Volvo line, even to the best-selling XC90 sport-utility vehicle. The S80 has soft lines with a gently sloping hood, steeply raked windscreen, slightly bowed roofline and coupe-like rear window.
Flared wheel wells gently wrap the striking alloy wheels. Its 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine is a good workhorse and it is very quick. Fitted with an intercooled turbocharger, the 2.5T makes 208 horsepower but feels like more, with 236 pound-feet of torque available at a low 1500 rpm. The speed-sensitive rack-and-pinion steering gives the S80 a light touch and a steadiness in the curves. In addition to all-wheel drive, the 2.5T AWD comes with Volvo’s Dynamic Stability and Traction Control, one of the most sophisticated electronic stability control systems around.
The front-wheel-drive T6 comes with Volvo’s new Four-C system (Continuous Controlled Chassis Concept), which monitors speed, acceleration and other dynamic forces and then adjusts the electronically damped hydraulic shock absorbers to provide either optimal comfort or sport control, depending on the position the driver selects on a switch mounted on the center console. The system can adjust the shocks up to 50 times in a single second. With the S80 Radiator, Volvo made sure it is environment friendly with a special coating that converts up to 75 percent of the ozone it encounters into oxygen.
